ZZ Top Webstore

Designing a merch experience as iconic as the band itself

Challenge

Create a distinct and on-brand webstore experience for ZZ Top, one of the most iconic rock bands in history, using a shared Shopify pattern library that still allowed for a unique, artist-specific look and feel. The site had to reflect the band's Texas grit and visual legacy while delivering a seamless ecommerce experience on mobile and desktop.

My Role

UX & Visual Designer

My Approach

I led all aspects of the store’s creative direction and design. With a deep personal familiarity with the band’s aesthetic, I leaned into their unique identity, designing a custom hero treatment that seamlessly blended their classic logo into a stylized desert landscape. Working within the scalable Shopify pattern library I previously designed, I crafted a layout that felt unmistakably ZZ Top without requiring custom code.

I produced all creative assets, delivered polished high-fidelity mocks, and worked closely with developers to ensure proper implementation across breakpoints. Despite the system constraints, I made sure the store felt immersive, branded, and built to convert.

Result

The new store launched with full approval from the artist team on the first round — no revisions needed. The design system approach enabled us to go live quickly while still delivering a store that felt like a natural extension of ZZ Top’s long-standing visual universe. The project has since been referenced as a creative benchmark for future artist store launches.
